The Zenmuse L2 is the latest Enterprise solution from DJI. The L2 is a highly accurate and efficient LiDAR surveying payload solution which attaches to DJI Matrice 350 RTK drones.

L2 replaces its predecessor, the Zenmuse L1. There are several key differences between the two models, and we sat down with Burhan Ahmed, Syndico’s Technical Sales Specialist, to find out more.

The Zenmuse L2 from DJI Enterprise is a highly precise integrated LiDAR solution which attaches to Matrice 350 RTK drones. It is an important step forward in DJI’s LiDAR offering for collection of geospatial data – it houses some significant improvements from its predecessor, the L1, which makes it a turnkey solution for 3D data collection and post-processing.

1. Improved accuracy

Under the same mission height, accuracy can be up to 4 times greater with the L2. Ground Point Density of L2 is 3 times that of the L1, so the L2’s penetration is greatly improved. Echo is improved on the L2 as well, with the ability to support 5 returns compared with 3 on the L1, and by using 240kHz maximum sampling frequency for all modes.

 

2. Greater efficiency

Under the same accuracy conditions, L2 can cover 5 times the area, essentially increasing the mission efficiency by 5 times. The measuring range of L2 is increased by 30% compared with L1, which allows you to fly at higher altitude for more efficient flight times.

 

3. Better results faster

The L2’s inertial navigation doesn’t require any warm-up before a flight, which saves up to 10 minutes flight time every flight. The L2’s RGB camera is better too thanks to its 4/3 inch sensor (compared with 1 inch previously), and it now supports 0.7 sec photo interval compared to 2 sec on the L1.

 

4. More features for the pilot

Using DJI Pilot with L2 is a transformed experience. It has many more features compared with L1, including Point Cloud mapping playback, multi-flight Point Cloud 3D model stitching, 2Dpa Point Cloud and field quality report.
